Therapy
The aim of the Foundation, established in 1974, is to provide a counselling service to the communities of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
Clients come from all walks of life looking for help. They may be unable to cope having suffered trauma or abuse, been close to suicide, been made redundant, suffered a break up in their marriage, faced dissatisfaction at work, or some other personal crisis. This stress may have affected their health, their relationships or their ability to work. They are all looking for help to find a way forward and to rebuild their lives.
The help is provided by some eighty counsellors operating from five counselling centres, who train to the highest professional standards over a five year period and qualify as members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. They provide an entirely confidential and secure consultation to anyone seeking their help.
Psychodynamic theory grows out of the work of Freud and other psychoanalysts. It uses the assumption that everyone has an unconscious mind and that feelings and fantasies held there can be too painful or challenging to be faced. Defences protect us from knowing about these feelings and fantasies but sometimes these defences restrict our capacity to enjoy life and fulfil our potential. Psychodynamic counselling aims to help the client become aware of, and understand, these feelings and fantasies in order to live with them.
If you think you may need or want counselling, please contact your nearest centre, details can be found on the contact us page.

| I am very pleased with my counsellor, she is very good at her job, completely on the ball and I’ve been to different people, but she is one of the best. She helps me to see what I am saying to myself which I believe is a key to understanding the root causes of my behaviour. |
